Box Score NEWBERRY - The Newberry College women's soccer team failed to click offensively as it was handed its first loss in three games, 1-0, at the hands of Tusculum.
Newberry (2-7, 2-2 South Atlantic Conference) and Tusculum (4-6, 1-3 SAC) played an even match until the 83rd minute when Pioneer forward Tramicka James (Wilson, N.C.) took a front flip style throw-in from teammate Claire Duncan (Greeneville, Tenn.) and headed it past Wolves goalkeeper Emily Rhoades (Buckley, Wash.) for the game winner.
The Wolves had their chances offensively, outshooting Tusculum, 15-11, and taking four shots on target, two of those by Jesse Langdon (Raleigh, N.C.).
Rhoades saved just one of the three shots the Pioneers took on goal before being replaced by Megan Hrenchir (Lawrence, Kan.) who closed out the remaining seven minutes of the game in front of the net.
The goal was the first allowed by Newberry since a Sept. 18 loss to Lincoln Memorial.
The Wolves will wrap up their five game home stand this Wednesday, Oct. 6, as they face off against SAC opponent Wingate.
