HICKORY, N.C. � The Newberry College women�s golf team finished in third place at the 2008 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference tournament at the Lake Hickory Country Club at Catawba Springs in Hickory, N.C.

The Lady Indians completed the second day and final round of play with a 343 and finished with a combined stroke total of 1036. Wingate University won the tournament with a 963 combined score.

Individually, sophomore Franziska Blum (Schweinfurt, Germany) finished in second place; one stroke behind tournament champion Ashley Denton from Wingate. Blum shot a 79 in the final round to finish with a 232.

Senior Ashley Ratcliff (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) completed play in seventh place with a three round total of 249 (83-85-81).

Senior Lindsay Gifford (Luray, S.C.) and sophomore Sarah Grigor (Oakville, Ontario) finished in the top 25 with three day totals of 275 and 280 respectively. Freshman Kathryn Puryear (Cayce, S.C.) was 34th with a 303.
