Box Score NEWBERRY- The Newberry women's soccer team (7-7-1, 4-3-0 SAC) conquered the Anderson University Trojans in a 4-0 win on a chilly afternoon game at the Newberry Soccer Complex.
The scoring started early in the game for Newberry and continued throughout the first half as scarlet and gray scored four goals in a 26 minute span.
Scoring the first goal was sophomore Amberly Fowler (Taylors, S.C.), who connected on a header that beat the Trojan goalkeeper Kelli Whitfield (Anderson, S.C.) in the 6th minute. Fowler received the cross from freshman Lora Moore (Raleigh, N.C.) to give the scarlet and gray the early 1-0 lead.
Two minutes later in the 8th minute, freshman Allie Johns (Lexington, S.C.) was set up for a goal in front of the net on a collaborative effort from Moore and junior Sara Griffith (Marietta, Ga.), whose one-two pass combination left Johns unmarked. Johns buried the shot into the right corner extending Newberry's lead to 2-0.
In the 19th minute, Moore got a goal of her own as a long through pass from freshman Megan Douglas (Bradford, England) positioned Moore in a goal-scoring opportunity that she did not waste as she chipped the ball over Whitfield lengthening the scarlet and gray lead to 3-0.
The final goal of the game came in the 32nd minute, when freshman Jesse Langdon (Raleigh, N.C.) received a long through pass from senior Ashleigh Mayer (St. Peters, Mo.). Langdon shot the ball into the right corner past a diving Whitfield to stretch the Newberry advantage to 4-0.
