Newberry falls to Lincoln Memorial, 6-1

HARROGATE, Tenn. - Newberry College fell to Lincoln Memorial University, 6-1, in NCAA Division II men's soccer action Saturday afternoon. Leondro Pereira recorded a hat trick for the Railsplitters in the victory. Jovon Rochford (Arima, Trinidad) scored the lone goal for the Indians in the loss. 

The Railsplitters scored four goals in the first half including two by Pereira. Pereira completed his hat trick in the 63rd minute when he beat Newberry goalie Will Dieterich (Tampa, Fla.) one on one after receiving a long pass. 

Rochford scored his goal on a header off a free kick from Seth Addison (Accra, Ghana) in the 69th minute but that was the only goal the Indians could create. 

Lincoln Memorial finished the scoring when they scored their sixth goal of the day in the 81st minute.
 
Though Newberry outshot the Railsplitters 17-16 in the game, including 11-8 in the second half, the Indians could not convert their chances into goals. Addison lead Newberry with six shots.

Newberry is now 4-2 on the year and will next play on September 18 when they travel to Belmont, N.C., to face the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College.
