Women's Soccer holds No. 10 Tusculum to scoreless draw in double overtime

NEWBERRY - The Newberry College Lady Indians used a solid defensive effort to hold the NSCAA/adidas No. 10 Tusculum College Pioneers to a scoreless draw in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action.

Goalkeeper Danielle Beckerle (St. Louis, Mo.) earned her third shutout of the season, making six saves for Newberry (5-5-2 overall, 1-2-2 SAC). Whitney Wardrop made four saves, and earned the shutout for Tusculum (8-0-2 overall, 3-0-1 SAC). Each keeper went the distance.

The Pioneers cranked out 12 shots, led by Kelly Barron, who took five. The Lady Indians shot the ball 11 times, with Lindsey Landgrebe (Springfield, Ill.), Brooke Tumblin (Florence, S.C.) and Inga Woiwode (El Paso, Texas) each shooting twice.

The draw was Newberry's second straight against a nationally ranked opponent. The Lady Indians drew 1-all at Catawba two weeks ago, when the Catawba Indians were ranked 20th in the nation. The tie was the first conference match of the season that Tusculum failed to win, including a win over No. 3 Carson-Newman earlier this week.

Newberry takes a break from conference action when they host the Converse College All-Stars on Thursday with a 4 p.m. kickoff.
