ANDERSON - Stephon Henry scored on a header at the 108:15 mark to give Anderson University a 2-1 double overtime victory over Newberry in non-conference men's soccer action Monday night at Smethers Field.
Anderson, 4-5-0 overall, trailed 1-0 until the 75:32 mark when Peter Miele served a corner kick that Newberry goalkeeper Bryan Linn (Safety Harbor, Fla.) punched away but could not control. Michael Walker managed to head the ball into the Indian net for the equalizer.
The Trojans were bailed out by the post in the 77th minute when a blast at the lower right corner by Philip Tanner (New Hope, S.C.) was just inches from putting the Indians ahead.
The Indians, 5-4-0 overall, thought they scored the golden goal just seconds into the first overtime when Debola Ogunseye (Lagos, Nigeria) intercepted a back pass and scored, but Ogunseye was called for a push in the back and the goal was waved off.
The match winner came off a corner by Miele that was hit by three different players before Henry headed the ball into the net to end the match.
Ogunseye scored Newberry's lone goal in the 41st minute. Kyle Rudder (Arima, Trinidad) served a corner kick that was headed on by Jeff Bell (North Augusta, S.C.) and Ogunseye knocked it in for his team-leading sixth of the season.
The Indians look to return to their winning ways with a Saturday matinee, as they host Brevard College for an 11 a.m. kickoff.
Anderson returns to action Wednesday at home against USC Upstate.
