Box Score NEWBERRY - The Newberry men dropped a home match on Saturday afternoon, this time to visiting Alderson-Broaddus College, 1-0 in men's soccer action. The Indians, flying high after beginning the season 2-0, have lost four consecutive matches. Their record falls to 2-4 overall.
The match was characterized by at times excessive physical play, especially from the Battlers who had 16 fouls called against them.
Battler midfielder Brent Roberts (Summersville, W.Va.), notched the game winner in the 21st minute.
Newberry's best chance came in the 73rd minute, when a good ball found its way in the Battlers box. Indian forward Juan Pablo Wunder (Santiago, Chile) caught the Alderson-Broaddus keeper off his line, and sent a shot towards the goal. Battler defender Curt Rockhead (Salisbury, Md.) made beautiful diving save with his left foot, sending the ball careening downfield.
Indian keeper Bryan Linn (Safety Harbor, Fla.), had another great game behind the goal, making eight saves in the match.
The Indians have a chance to redeem themselves on Sunday, taking on the University of Charleston (W. Va.), at the Newberry Soccer Complex at 1pm.
