NEWBERRY, S.C. - Newberry College freshman forward Brooke Tumblin scored the match-winning goal early in the second half to lead the Indians to a 1-0 South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer win over visiting Wingate University Saturday afternoon at the Newberry College soccer complex.
With the win, Newberry improves to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the SAC. Wingate is 6-3 overall and 1-1 in the SAC. The Bulldogs had won six matches in a row prior to Saturday’s setback. Wingate will look to get back in the win column next Saturday (Oct. 2), when the Bulldogs host Catawba College at 3 p.m.
Tumblin leads the Indians with nine goals this season. In the 53rd minute, Tumblin took a pass from freshman forward Inga Woiwode and found the back of the nets to win the match for Newberry.
The Indians outshot the Bulldogs 7-4. Newberry freshman goalkeeper Danielle Beckerle recorded her second shutout of the season, notching one save. Wingate sophomore netminder Alissa DiDonato (Lawrenceville, Ga.) had three saves.
