Women's soccer pummels Coker College 4-0

NEWBERRY –  The big question facing Juan Pablo Favero’s Newberry women’s soccer team was simple:  How would a collection of 19 freshman and only one returning starter fair in against top-notch college competition?

The answer can be found somewhere in the Indian’s 4-0 opening win over Coker College.

"I am very proud of how the team played today," commented Favero.  "But we have a lot of hard work to put into the rest of the season.  This is just one step in what we have set out to accomplish."

From the opening whistle to the final horn, the Indians played stifling defense, only allowing a total of six Cobra shots in the victory, while pummeling the Coker goalkeeper with 24 shots of their own.

Adriana Farfan, from West Palm Beach, Florida, scored twice in the contest.  Inga Woiwode notched a goal and an assist, and junior Kristin Parker, the only returning player from last year’s squad, recorded an assist.

Brooke Tumblin scored the Indian’s second goal, and Ashlee Swayze picked up credit for an assist on the day as well.

The Indians suit up again this Thursday, in a contest at Erskine College.
