OUCH! Newberry men's soccer spanks Erskine 6-0

Box Score

DUE WEST - It's always good to go on the road and put a match in the win column, and that is precisely what the Newberry men's soccer team did in Due West, S.C. Wednesday night, punishing Erskine College 6-0.  The Indians improve to 6-4-1 on the season, while the Flying Fleet of Erskine remain winless at 0-9-1.

Troy Pinckney (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) continued his recent blistering play, scoring the opening goal and game winner in the 34th minute.  Pinckney has four goals in his last three matches.  Chad Domis (Columbia, S.C.) followed just four minutes later with a goal of his own.  The goal was Domis' second on the year.

The flood gates opened for Newberry in the second half, when in the 55th minute, Adam Smith (Colonial Heights, Va.) found the back of the net for the first time this season.  Just like that, Newberry's leader in points Ricardo Silveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) decided to get into the scoring action, sending a shot past the Erskine keeper for his fifth goal this season.

The rest of the match belonged to Jason Wiggins (Charleston, S.C.) and Brandon Cockrell (Mauldin, S.C.).  Wiggins scored once in the 63rd, assisted by Cockrell.  It felt so good, the pair decided to team up in the same way again in the 85th minute.  After the two goals, Wiggins has three on the season.  Cockrell continues to lead the Indians in assists with six on the season.

The Newberry men's soccer team is back in action Saturday at 4 p.m. in Hickory, N.C., as they take on South Atlantic Conference foe Lenoir-Rhyne.
