Newberry winless in fifth straight match with 3-0 loss at No. 17 Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 17 Tusculum College men's soccer team scored two goals early, and added an insurance goal late to down Newberry College 3-0 Saturday night at Pioneer Field.

The Pioneers' first goal came at the 4:14 mark when junior forward Paul Hopkins (Portsmouth, England) headed in a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Gerald Watt (Brampton, Ontario). Less than three minutes later, junior midfielder Alex Eddo (Brown Hill, West Indies) made the score 2-0 off a pass from senior forward Matt DeMartini (Dover, N.J.).

Eighty minutes went by before DeMartini drove home a penalty kick at the 87:51 mark.

Senior Michael Zappas (Palm Coast, Fla.) made three saves for his second shutout of the season. Newberry's Tim Seibert (Harrisburg, N.C.) made six saves, allowing three goals.

Tusculum (10-1-1, 4-1-1 SAC) takes over a week off before hosting Eckerd College on Sunday, Oct. 19 for Homecoming. Newberry (6-6-1, 1-4 SAC) faces Erskine College at home on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
