Hello Newberry Golf Fans! I hope this week has been a good one for you. Today, Lauren and I spent another day in Banff, Alberta, Canada. What a great day we had!
We were able to sleep in, catch up on laundry, then we hit the town. Some of you may have been here before, but for those of you who have not, I cannot recommend this place enough. The town is set at the foot of the Canadian Rockies. There are snow-capped mountains all around, it's beautiful. This afternoon, Lauren and I decided to see more of the area via bicycle. Ladies and Gentlemen, I have been on a bicycle more the last 3 days, than I have been in 20 years! It's a good thing that the saying is true: once you learn how to ride a bike, you never forget.
We rode for a full 2 1/2 hours, riding down trails that led to Bow Falls; a section of the local river that turns into rapids. We rode the bikes on trails that allowed us to see several elk, huge deer-like animals that are the size of horses. Let me tell you, they are not spooked by humans. I think they dare you to get too close. We rode past Fenland Trail, which is a foot path that takes you pretty far in a forest area. Where we went past Fenland, we were on pavement and were a little reluctant to go too far on the "path" because of the bear warning posted at the beginning of the trail. That was the second bear warning we saw posted this afternoon. It's so cool to see the different landscape, just absolutely incredible to see in person. Finally, we ended today's activities by eating at a local restaurant called the Bison Biestro. It was recommended to us by the gentlemen that helped us in the bike shop and since he did so well in recommending where we should ride, Lauren and I thought he would know what he's talking about when it comes to food too. Did he ever! We shared a caesar salad and a woodfired pizza with venison sausage, cheese, and smoked bison(you can't eat at a restaurant called the Bison Biestro and not have some Bison!). The pizza was absolutely delicious. Lauren and I walked around town for a few more minutes, trying on some winter hats locals might wear(Lauren put on a coon-skin hat and I put on an ear-flap hat with insolated lining. We have a picture to prove we put them on.).
Tomorrow is an early get up day. The alarm is set for 5am local time, which is 7am in Newberry. We will be in Billings, Montana tomorrow night. Since we've been in Canada, Lauren and I have been without cell phone service, so it will be interesting to see if we have any voicemail messages. I always kid Lauren that I am so glad I'm not popular because I never have many phone calls, let alone voicemail. We'll see tomorrow how popular I am or am not! Well folks, I hope all of you has a great weekend. Lauren and I are looking forward to getting back to Newberry next Thursday; we've had such an awesome experience! See you soon.
