Tennis falls to Francis Marionby Ryan Gross, Newberry Sports Information February 23, 2005 NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Newberry Indians men’s and women’s tennis teams fell at home Wednesday afternoon at the hands Francis Marion University, as both Patriot teams posted a 9-0 victory over Newberry. The Newberry women’s team falls to 1-3 on the young season, while the men’s team record drops to 1-3 as well.
The Lady Indians number one player Lauren Hartley (Beamsville, Ontario) fell in straight sets to Kamini Murugaboopathy (Chennai, India) 6-2, 7-6. The number one player on the men’s side for Newberry, Jonathan Ward (Bristol, England), didn’t fare much better, losing in straight sets to Patriot #1 player Kevin Taylor (Benoni, South Africa), 6-4, 6-2. The Indians are back in action on March 1st, when both teams travel to USC Aiken to do battle with the Pacers. The match will commence at 2 p.m.
