Wolves host Wingate before heading to Francis Marion

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Newberry men’s soccer team continues the 2011 campaign this afternoon when it plays host to Wingate and on Saturday on the road against Francis Marion.

Fresh off a tough 1-0 loss to Tusculum last Saturday the Wolves (4-5-0, 0-3-0 South Atlantic Conference) look to rebound today against Wingate (3-6-0, 1-1-0 SAC). Newberry is 2-18 all-time against Wingate, and were defeated 8-0 last season when the two teams met up.

Wingate is led offensively by freshman Peron Da Silva who not only leads in goals with four, but is tied for the team lead with two assists.

The Bulldogs have lost the last five road matches they have played entering this afternoon’s conference match.

On Saturday the Wolves travel to Florence, S.C., where the Francis Marion Patriots (1-9-0) await. The Wolves are 1-6-0 all-time against Francis Marion and have yet to earn a victory in Florence.

The Patriots have only scored four goals this season, two of which have come from Alex Blandin.

Newberry and Wingate play at the Newberry Soccer Field this afternoon at 4 p.m. Live stats will be available through the Newberry athletics website. The Wolves travel to Florence to play the Patriots on Saturday at 1 p.m. Francis Marion will provide live stats through its website.
