NEWBERRY, S.C. – Still looking for its first win of the season, the Newberry College women’s tennis team was denied in its latest match, losing 9-0 to the visiting Pfeiffer Falcons.
The Wolves kept pace with the Falcons in the first doubles match featuring Marina Ziehe (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Shannon McManus (Charleston, S.C.). The pair stayed with Pfeiffer duo of Alena Krutkina and Chelsi Haefele through the majority of the match but eventually fell by an 8-5 mark.
Amanda Simmons (Saluda, S.C.) and Lindsay Kyzer (Saluda, S.C.) dropped their doubles tilt with Catie Thomas and Briana Oliver by a score of 8-1. The doubles portion of the match concluded with Sierra Hoover (Duncan, S.C.) and Stephanie Matthews (Saluda, S.C.) dropping their match against Cari Hopson and Kayleigh Featherstone by a score of 8-3.
The pack couldn’t build any momentum when the singles matches began either. Ziehe dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Krutkina and was followed by McManus who lost her match with Thomas 6-0, 6-1.
