Newberry falls to Anderson, 9-0

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Newberry College women’s team dropped a Thursday tilt against the Anderson Trojans, 9-0.
Newberry (1-3) was coming off of its first win of the season but could not collect its second against Anderson (2-4).
On the singles side, Autise Mortimer (Nassau, Bahamas) lost a thriller to Angie Solorzano (6-7, 6-2, 10-8); Rebekah Crouch (Saluda, S.C.) fell to Marcela Gallegos (6-0, 6-0); Amanda Simmons (Saluda, S.C.) came up short against Camie Beaulieu Brune (6-0, 6-0); Stephanie Matthews (Saluda, S.C.) lost to Julie Halbert (6-0, 6-0); Lindsay Kyzer (Saluda, S.C.) dropped a match to Shelby Anderson (6-0, 6-0); and Sierra Hoover (Duncan, S.C.) was defeated by Lisa Gorman (6-0, 6-0).
In doubles play, Autise Mortimer and Amanda Simmons were topped by Julie Halbert and Angie Solorzano (8-4); Rebekah Crouch and Stephanie Matthews fell to Marcela Gallegos and Shelby Anderson (8-0); and the team of Sierra Hoover and Lindsay Kyzer came up short against Laura Gorman and Lauren Smith (8-0).
Newberry will return home to open South Atlantic Conference play against Brevard on Saturday, February 27. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
