Newberry women drop conference match to Mars Hill Lions, 8-1
Allison Kyzer earns her first win of the season

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry College women’s tennis team dropped their first conference match of the season Saturday by losing to the Mars Hill Lions, 8-1.
Newberry’s lone win came by way of senior Allison Kyzer (Saluda, S.C.) who defeated Jordan Dockery (6-1, 6-2). It was Kyzer’s first victory of the season.
In other singles action, Autise Mortimer (Nassau, Bahamas) fell to Erika Pinate (5-7, 7-5, 10-5); Rebekah Crouch (Saluda, S.C.) lost to Patricia La Rovere (6-0, 6-1); and Lindsey Kyzer (Saluda, S.C.) dropped a match to Paola Aybar Jimenez (6-2, 6-2). Kelly Cheesborough (Harlem, Ga.) and Denise Williams (Blackville, Ga.) both lost their singles matches (6-0, 6-0).
In doubles play, Mortimer and Crouch lost to La Rovere and Pinate, 8-1; the Kyzer sisters lost to Adriana Borda and Kim Blythe, 8-1; and Cheesborough and Sam Armstrong (Barnwell, S.C.) fell to Dockery and Jimenez, 8-2.
The loss puts the Newberry College women’s tennis team at 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the SAC. The scarlet and gray return to action on Wednesday, March 18 in a home match against Augusta St at 2 pm. Next up for Mars Hill (3-3, 1-1 in the SAC) will be a road match against Limestone at 2:30 pm.
