Women's Tennis advances to SAC Tournament Semifinals with 5-0 win over WingateHartley/Mortimer duo remains undefeated in SAC doubles action April 17, 2007 NEWBERRY, S.C. - Second-seeded Newberry College eliminated seventh-seed Wingate University from the 2007 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Tournament with a 5-0 sweep at the Cannon Courts on the Newberry campus Tuesday afternoon. Newberry (10-6), the ninth-ranked team in the Southeast region, started the match off with wins in all three doubles matches. The top flight pair of Autise Mortimer and Lauren Hartley came back from an early 0-3 deficit to defeat Hollyn Alberghini and Sydney Pallesen, 8-6. Chanelle Clare earned the fourth point at No. 5 singles with a 6-2 and 6-1 victory over Brittany Ruffner. Hartley won, 6-1 and 6-1, over Alberghini in No. 2 singles to clinch the match, as well as the Lady Indians' first-ever trip to the conference tournament semifinals. The Lady Indians will face the winner of today's match between third-seeded Tusculum and sixth-seeded Catawaba at 9 a.m. Saturday at Tusculum's Nichols Tennis Center.
