Lady Indians defeat Mars Hill, 6-3, for fifth straight league winNewberry claims at least a share of second place in SAC April 6, 2007 NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry College women's tennis team won its fifth consecutive South Atlantic Conference match, 6-3, over Mars Hill College on Friday. The Lady Indians claimed at least a share of second place in the league, and move to 8-6 overall and 5-1 in the SAC. Mars Hill is now 14-5 overall and 3-3 in the conference. SAC Player of the Week Autise Mortimer (Nassau, Bahamas) and Lauren Hartley (Beamsville, Ontario, Canada) defeated Aylin Seyalioglu and Nancie Gruber, 8-5, in No. 1 doubles for their eighth win in the last nine matches. The duo is undefeated in doubles action during SAC play. Bethany Poppe (Califon, N.J.) won 6-3 and 6-4 over Kim Blythe at No. 6 singles to remain unbeaten in SAC play in singles. Tanea Miller (Nassau, Bahamas) clinched the victory for Newberry with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Patty La Rovere at No. 4 singles. The Lady Indians close out the regular season Wednesday at 2 p.m. when they host Catawba College. Singles competition Doubles competition |
