NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry College women's tennis team had its five-match winning streak snapped, as visiting Florida Tech won, 7-2, in non-conference action Thursday.
The Lady Indians are now 7-6 overall heading into Friday's South Atlantic Conference match with Mars Hill. Florida Tech is now 7-10.
Newberry fell behind 2-1 after the doubles portion of the match, with the No. 3 pair of Bethany Poppe (Califton, N.J.) and Brittany Grooms (Sumter, S.C.) defeating Tania Gay and Aya Nakatsuji, 8-2.
Lauren Hartley (Beamsville, Ontario, Canada) and Autise Mortimer (Nassau, Bahamas) fell in No. 1 doubles for the first time in eight matches, as they lost to Michaela Hovathova and Natlia Ramos, 8-4.
The Lady Indians' sole singles victory came in the No. 6 flight, as Natalie Hudson (Sumter, S.C.) beat Nakatsuji, 6-1, 6-0.
Friday's conference match against Mars Hill is slated for 2 p.m. at the Cannon Tennis Courts on the Newberry campus.
