NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry College women's tennis team defeated Wingate University, 9-0, in South Atlantic Conference action here Wednesday. The sweep is Newberry's third in a row.
Newberry is now 5-5 overall and 2-1 in the league, as Wingate falls to 2-12 overall and 0-4 in the SAC.
The No. 1 doubles duo of Autise Mortimer (Nassau, Bahamas) and Lauren Hartley (Beamsville, Ontario, Canada) have now won five straight matches, with a 8-2 win over Sydney Pallesen and Hollyn Alberghini.
The duos of Isabel Kreidler (Horb, Germany) and Bethany Poppe (Califton, N.J.) at No. 2 and Chanelle Clare (Nassau, Bahamas) and Tanea Miller (Nassau, Bahamas) at No. 3 have now won their third straight doubles match.
Poppe is also on a roll, having won five consecutive singles matches with her 6-3, 6-2 win over Ashley Keefer at No. 6.
Clare, Hartley, Kreidler, Miller and Mortimer have been victorious in three consecutive singles matches each.
The Lady Indians are on the road for two SAC matches this weekend, with the first coming at 2 p.m. Friday against Carson-Newman. Newberry plays at 11 a.m. Saturday at Tusculum.
