Lady Indians pick up first SAC win of season with 9-0 sweep of Lenoir-RhyneMarch 22, 2007 NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry College women's tennis team picked up its first South Atlantic Conference victory of the season with a 9-0 sweep of visiting Lenoir-Rhyne College on Wednesday. Newberry (3-5, 1-1 SAC) swept Lenoir-Rhyne (1-7, 0-5 SAC) for the second consecutive season, and has now beaten the Bears in three straight seasons. Isabel Kreidler (Horb, Germany) had the best performance for the Lady Indians, as she won the No. 3 singles match over Mary Hulet Kitterman, 6-0, 6-0. Autise Mortimer (Nassau, Bahamas) defeated Kate Meiners, 6-0, 6-1, in No. 1 singles, and paired up with Lauren Hartley (Beamsville, Ontario, Canada) to beat Meiners and Kelli Ball, 8-1, in No. 1 doubles. The Mortimer and Hartley duo has now won three straight matches at No. 1 doubles for Newberry. Bethany Poppe (Califton, N.J.) has now won her singles match in three consecutive matches with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Amanda Hunsucker in No. 6 singles. Newberry will look to add to its win total as the Lady Indians hit the road to take on Brevard College at 2 p.m. Friday. Singles competition Doubles competition |
