Women downed by short-handed Augusta StateNC Sports Information February 1, 2003 AUGUSTA, GA – The Newberry Tennis teams began the spring semester of play with a home doubleheader to Augusta State. The Jags swept the matches, defeating the Indians 9-0 in men’s action and 5-4 in women’s play. Both Newberry squads are 1-1 on the season. The Jaguars actually won five of six played matches, as Newberry won three matches due to default because of a lack of Augusta State players. The Indian men take on Francis Marion next Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at home, while the women travel to Francis Marion for a 2 p.m. Saturday match.
