Newberry netters get second conference win at Wingate, 6-3

WINGATE, N.C. - The Newberry College men’s and women’s tennis teams both won South Atlantic Conference matches at Wingate University Wednesday afternoon. The Newberry women defeated Wingate 6-3, while the NC men topped Wingate 8-1.

The middle of the lineup proved to be the difference for Newberry (8-6, 2-1 SAC), as the Lady Indians won two doubles matches and the two through five singles flights to take the SAC victory over Wingate (4-10, 1-3 SAC).

Three players won two matches each for Newberry, led by junior Lauren Hartley (Beamsville, Ontario). Hartley started her day with a doubles win, then defeated Wingate junior Erika Gluckstal (Fort Myers, Fla.) 6-3, 6-4 at number two singles.
