Women's Tennis falls at Augusta State, 7-2
Indians barely edged in two of three doubles matches

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Despite a valiant effort by the Lady Indians, Newberry was edged out in women’s tennis action at Augusta State Tuesday afternoon, falling 7-2. The heartbreaking loss comes as Augusta State barely edged Newberry in two doubles matches, 9-7, that could have turned the tide in the final outcome.
At No. 1 doubles, Nathalia Rodrigues and Norma Rovira was the first Jaguar tandem to record the 9-7 victory, winning over Newberry’s Isabel Kreidler and Bethany Poppe. The same thing happened at No. 2 doubles where Sarah Jegat and Maria Zevallos sealed the 9-7 victory over Tanea Miller and Lauren Hartley.
Newberry’s two points came at No. 4 singles where Chanelle Clare notched the 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 win over Maria Zevallos. The second point came at No. 5 singles as Bethany Poppe defeated Ashley Abrams, 4-6, 6-1 (12-10).
Newberry hosts their first match of the year at home on Friday at 2 p.m. as the Scarlet and Gray face Spartanburg Methodist.
